Stratton's parents were Mary and Myron Stratton.[1] Stratton is a descendant from the Windsor, Connecticut line of the Stratton family.[2] Stratton's mother had twelve children; of four boys, he is said to be the only one who lived beyond childhood.[3] In , Mary and Myron had nine children aged from 22 years to six months of age: Diantha, Harriet, Anna, Winfield, Mary, Virginia, Luella, Jesse and Ada.
