Vladimir Kramnik

Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik, born on June 25, 1975, claimed the title of "classical world champion" from Garry Kasparov in the year 2000. It was a stunning surprise that Kramnik managed to defeat Kasparov, who had seemed to be nearly unbeatable until then, in a 16-game match.

This match was organized by the PCA, the "breakaway" organisation founded by Kasparov and Nigel Short.
